Attention control and intentional forgetting at work

Contact person: Dr. Kyra Göbel

In an increasingly digitalized world in which information is available almost everywhere and at all times, we are faced with the challenge of using it effectively while minimizing distraction and excessive demands.

Consciously suppressing and forgetting irrelevant or distracting thoughts plays a special role here. This allows attention to be focused on the main task and distractions to be avoided or at least reduced.

Using a combination of laboratory and field studies, we are investigating for whom, how and under what conditions intentional forgetting can be used successfully in everyday working life and what effects it has on employees’ performance and well-being.
